Jim Boggs plays tenor and soprano saxophones for the band, as well as percussion. Growing up in the great state of Oklahoma, Jim says he first showed an interest in music at the age of seven when he sat down at his great aunt’s piano and began playing familiar melodies by ear. After two years of piano lessons he took up the clarinet, which he played as his major instrument through high school and college. In high school Jim scored highly in solo and ensemble competitions, played in the All-State Band, and added alto saxophone to his menagerie instruments when he was a senior.

Jim majored in music his first year at Oklahoma University, where he marched in the Pride of Oklahoma Band. Jim says, “I wandered away from my walk with God as a young man and set aside my love of music for nearly 28 years. But as the Lord promised thousands of years ago, He did not abandon me.” In October 2004 Jim answered the knock at the door and gave his life back to his Savior Jesus.

With his interest in music revived, Jim began his relationship with the Daystar Project Ministry in 2005 when he was elected to the board of directors and appointed as treasurer for the ministry. Jim thoroughly enjoys playing with Daystar and has been heard to say, “I’m jazzed just to be on the set!”

Jim lives in Katy, Texas with his loving wife Liz, where they attend Grace Fellowship United Methodist Church. Jim’s life is also blessed with children Ambre, Aaron, Alyssa, and Joel; son-in-law Josh; and grandson Jack.
